Building Stronger Futures for Vulnerable Children and Youth
What we do
NOSA EL OVC delivers integrated programmes that address the educational, nutritional, psychosocial, and developmental needs of orphans, vulnerable children, youth, and families within the community. Our interventions are designed to protect children, strengthen families, and promote long-term resilience and self-reliance.
our programmes
Early Childhood Development (ECD)
Our Early Childhood Development programme provides a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment for young children during their most critical developmental years. The programme focuses on early literacy, numeracy, social interaction, and emotional development, ensuring children are school-ready and supported holistically. Trained caregivers provide age-appropriate stimulation, supervision, and care in line with early learning standards.
Drop-In Centre (After-School Care)
The Drop-In Centre serves as a safe haven for school-going children after school hours. Learners receive nutritious meals, homework assistance, reading support, and academic enrichment. The programme reduces exposure to negative influences while supporting consistent school attendance, improved academic performance, and positive social behaviour.
Feeding Scheme
Our feeding scheme addresses food insecurity among vulnerable children and households by providing regular meals to participants in our programmes. Nutrition is central to children’s ability to learn and grow, and this intervention ensures that no child under our care goes hungry while attending educational and developmental activities.
Power Girl Programme
The Power Girl Programme is a girls-focused empowerment initiative held every Saturday. It provides a safe and supportive space for girls to receive academic assistance, reading lessons, mentorship, and life-skills development. The programme aims to keep girls off the streets, improve confidence, promote positive self-identity, and support their educational progression.
Community Garden
NOSA EL OVC maintains a community garden that promotes food security, sustainability, and practical life skills. Children and youth are actively involved in planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce, which contributes directly to our feeding scheme. The garden also serves as a learning platform for responsibility, teamwork, and environmental awareness.
Chess Programme
Our Chess Programme uses structured chess activities as a tool for cognitive development and character building. Through regular practice sessions, children develop critical thinking, concentration, patience, and problem-solving skills. The programme supports academic growth while providing a positive and stimulating recreational activity.
Food Parcel Distribution
To support households facing extreme hardship, NOSA EL OVC facilitates food parcel distribution to child-headed households, unemployed caregivers, and families experiencing food insecurity. This intervention provides short-term relief while complementing our broader social support initiatives.
Psycho-Social Support
NOSA EL OVC provides psycho-social support services to address the emotional, behavioural, and social challenges faced by vulnerable children, youth, and families. Through structured support sessions, guidance, and referrals, we help individuals cope with trauma, stress, and life challenges that impact their wellbeing and development.
Our approach focuses on building emotional resilience, promoting positive self-esteem, and creating safe spaces where children and youth can express themselves. Psycho-social support is integrated across our programmes to ensure holistic care that supports both learning and overall wellbeing.
Programmes Under Pilot
In response to community needs and in partnership with relevant stakeholders, NOSA EL OVC is in the process of developing the following programmes:
Coding & Robotics for the Young Generation (Planned)
This planned programme aims to introduce children and youth to basic coding, robotics, and digital problem-solving skills. Through structured learning sessions and practical exposure, the initiative will support digital literacy, creativity, and future career readiness in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
HIV & AIDS Awareness Campaign (Planned)
The HIV & AIDS campaign will focus on education, prevention, and stigma reduction through community workshops and awareness activities. The programme will promote informed decision-making, healthy lifestyles, and access to support services, particularly among youth and vulnerable populations.
Computer Skills for Young Unemployed Parents (Planned)
This programme will provide basic computer literacy and digital skills training to young unemployed parents and caregivers. The aim is to improve employability, access to information, and economic participation while empowering parents to better support their families and children’s education.
